Extremely loud & incredibly slow
It focuses on a eleven-year-old boy named Oskar Schell. His father (Hanks) died in the 911 incident and he was obsessed with the death ever since, hiding in his cupboard crying while listening to his father's voice messages just minutes before the accident. One year later, Oskar discovers a key in a vase that belonged to his father that inspires him to search all around New York for information about the key. On his quest to find the secret lock that he believed his father left for him, Oskar became acquainted with an old mute who turned out to be his extranged grandfather, became distant from his grieving mother (Bullocks) and met a myriad of strangers (214 New Yorkers named Black, to be exact).
My interpretation of the movie is- Extremely loud and incredibly slow. What's there not to like about Oskar? The sensitive, extremely intelligent, ernest boy who remained fiercely loyal to his father. What I have not told you is that, Oskar has most symptoms of an autistic child. He is afraid of everything, from public transport, tall buildings to old people. He throws fits when something is not within his control. His fear and anxiety is transferred to the audience via amplification of every single sound. Even the most soothing sound of water dripping becomes nerve-wrecking. Plus, Oskars talks way too much. Too much irrelevant information full of facts and numbers, all at train-speed and with so much anger. It is so real but so frustrating!! It only shows how convincing the director and this child actor is in delivering the story.
If you have a vexing day, this movie is definitely not a wise choice. Not all heart-warming movies create the same intended effect. It is a weary, hectic, 130 minutes-long verbose narration by Oskar the hyper-articulative, prideful and pushy kid. However it is that brutally honest- it conveys the confusion and overpowering emotions of a child who lost his father in a senseless attack.
I know Big hated the show as much as I did but he still waited patiently for it to end. Awww.

Tall dream

While Richard Branson awed us with his Virgin Galactic sapce craft, a Japanese company is also in hope of getting the space tourism industry off the ground- building a space elevator by 2050. You hear right, an elevator that brings you a trip to space.
The concept is to shuttle passengers 36,000km above the Earth by 2050, using carbon nanotubes, which are 20 times stronger than steel, to produce the cables required for elevator. Travelling at a speed of 200km/h, it would take probably a week to reach the terminal station. I cannot decide if the ride is fast or slow, but it better be comfortable. Imagine being trapped in an elevator with 29 other people for a week with no scenery (I will assume it is pitch black). I wonder too, how long the passengers are allowed to stay in space. It better be worth the 2 weeks of travel!

Of all uncertainties, one thing for sure- it will cost a bomb.
Nonetheless, if it fails, it is still a beautiful dream, isn't it?

Fat Cow
We were excited about the mouth-watering beef and all, but the booking process was not entirely pleasing. They were already opened for a month when we went in December, however the website still states "Coming Soon". Another buffling thing is that you have to enter your personal details like occupation before you could click 'Invite Me'. You could basically walk in, why do you need to get invited? And do I need to be at least a Director to dine there? After which, you will receive a confirmation SMS which starts with 'You have made the cut.' We see the pun... but not the point. It is suppose to make one feel privileged or offended? Perhaps only that fat cow will know.
Fortunately, the service was great and the food amazing, not forgetting fantastic company too!
Let's take a look at some items that we ordered.

McFancy
I like marketing agency ACCESS, they have some pretty crazy ideas. Crazy but not over the top, I can totally see the events realising. I particularly like McFancy. Like the name suggests, it has something to do with our favourite fast food chain- McDonalds. (I did blog about Mini Inflatables before, it is their baby too)



GucciFries, HermesFries, BurberryBurger, PaulSmithSundae. Totally hmmmm. Even the names make me salivate. Imagine sitting first row at a Alexander McQueen runway show, while munching on takeaway fries. McDonalds + McQueen, I think it's brilliant! (Or maybe I'm just bonkers)
I am so looking forward to the upcoming Fashion Festival in Singapore. I am keen to see if it brings me to a new level of boredom. Surprise me please.

Land of Smiles
Despite flood warnings from Thai government, unhappy parents, disputes on Whatsapp, friends backing out, we still went ahead with the much-awaited trip. No longer a hen's night, since only 3 out of 6 went eventually, it was still a memorable one.
Having not returned for 6 years, I have almost forgotten how 'cheap' Thailand is- the food, the clothes, the services. Amazing deals at mind-blowing low prices. That is how attractive Bangkok is. If not, why would so many people still risk traveling to a place that might have flood water hitting the very next day? Our flight was full, we could not find seats along the roadside stalls, Route 66 was packed with tourists, expats and hot locals dancing the night away. Everyone wants a piece of Bangkok. There is fear or panic everywhere else, except for the city itself. How ironic.
I should be jumping with joy that we experienced great weather and shopped till we dropped (literally) but I felt an unwanted dispiritness. There, I was reminded of The Forgotten. There were beggars at every corner, every day. I know we cannot help everyone but the fact that we walked away as if they were invisible is saddening. I irk myself. It irks me more when people actually feel indifferent about it. Yes, the world must still go on, but at least have some sympathy, shouldn't we?
Too fortunate. So fortunate that some people did not empathise with the mentally-handicapped who sat there staring at space, drooling on himself. They felt nothing for the poor 4-year-old who tip-toed to reach the car window, begging for money at the dangerous traffic junction. Their eyes were too high to see the crippled who dragged his leftover limps on the rough ground. They had 'none of my business' scrawled all over their faces. They could continue with the seafood feast when the stench of the old lady selling flowers could easily overpower.
With more negativity looming over the city, it was hard to let go and enjoy. As time seeps past our fingers while we enjoy, water seeps past the dams while they suffer.
Most times, we forget. Sometimes, we should sit down and appreciate everything and everyone we have. Sometimes is good enough.

Raining beans
Some joints have such amazing interior design, it is bringing the ball game to a whole new level. It is no longer a competition of good beans and great service but also attractive interior decoration and quirky merchandises.
I have been reading up, but could not decide which to start with! Since I am no expert in this department, I shall follow a friend's recommendation. Dawn & I were at Robertson Quay, torn between Kith and Toby's Estate. Looking a little more refresh, we picked Toby's. Great view and nice furnitures I must say. However, I hate sharing tables with strangers- no privacy. At the end of the day, I knew that the lady on my left has a Terrier which underwent surgery for comsuming lego tiles, and the balding guy in front of us just returned from States (from the way he blabbered on with his American accent, about his boyfriend back home), or the young chap whom I knew studys Biology as I took a glance of his sketches on nucleus, mitochondria, cytoplasm and golgi apparatus. See, I made new 'friends' without actually speaking with them. Dammit, which means that they most probably knew I just went for plastic surgery!
No, just kidding. All those mentioned above are just fictional. We sat at a lonely corner, dazing out of the window. Haha.
It is so spacious and I'm totally loving it! The huge wall mural and that humungous steel roaster will not fail to catch anyone's attention. The monstrous roaster with a metallic air duct stretching to the top of the cafe's 6m tall ceiling is not just for show, it actually roasts the beans in-house. The roaster sure is big but it did not steal the show. One will not miss noticing the 'Lab'- a counter lined with measuring scales, glass beakers and odd-shaped flasks arranged just like a chemistry lab. Other than the usual lattes, one could also choose 'Lab Coffee' which are beans processed with different machines like the Clover, Chemex and v60, hence giving each cup a unique profile.
Even though the setup and selection process seemed very professional, I was in fact a tad disappointed. I requested for a full-bodied cuppa and (I think the barista chose Clover) the thing I received looked far from that. Although we know nuts about coffee and roasting, but I was hoping at least to be blown away by the aroma. Nope it didn't happen.
We both thought the fresh carrot juice tasted better.

Be disloyal

The disloyalty card- I like the sound of that. I love the idea behind it.
The generation X & Y are notorious for being fickled and disloyal, isn't it? Why not act just on that? Antics Studios initiated this witty campaign and brought together few of the best local coffee joints, to bring about greater awareness about specialty coffee in Singapore.
Simply chalk up stamps from any of these outlets- Jewel Coffee, Smitten, Jimmy Monkey, Loysel's Toy, Forty Hands, Oriole, Broers CafĂŠ & SOHO Coffee, and you get a free cuppa from the first outlet you visited. Voila! That simple.
I think I fall right smack into their target group. I love coffee and I'm disloyal (to brands). I mean, there better be an extremely good reason why I remain loyal one brand when everyday sprouts a newer and better choice. To win me over, it has to be either a stone throwaway, or the barrista is uber cute/ hunky, or the coffee is bloody good (or even better, free).
Although one free coffee will most probably not convert me into a fan, but at least it exposes me to those cafes which I may not have heard of and may also give me jusssst a little nudge to try some of them.
Though witty and all, sadly the idea did not originate from Singapore. It stemmed from the 2009 World Barista champion, Gwilym Davies, who initiated the idea in his own cafe in London.

Hummerstons
I was blown away when I first stepped in (low expectation is usually a good thing). Impressed.
The restaurant was very welcoming- very spacious, very warm. For people who shipped their furnitures right from Bali, they have taste, don't they. You may find this place a teeny weeny bit familiar. Yes it has a story, you can try asking the waiters & waitresses why.
Their cushions are clashing in prints but they look wonderfully cohesive when placed together. Oh how I adore those 'zebra-preens'.

These retro-looking high stools remind me of Granny's home. Not that my Granny has a cool bar like this one, but it's awesome just to sit on one of these while watching the Bartender show off his skills.
Honestly, everything in their menu seem to be my favourites but I must say, the die-die-must-try is their Hummerstons' Truffle Fries. Yes, Truffle Fries are everywhere nowadays but rarely do we find fresh ones that come with potato skin! Do we??
Although the ginormous Waygu Burger almost spilt the sides of my mouth, I think it's worth every bite. I actually finished every single bit of it! Haha talking about who eats little?
Seriously, you must at least take a peek at this new one. There must be something you like here- food, mojitos, ambience, furnitures, friendly waiters perhaps?

Jealous
A friend recently sent me the link to a new local fashion website, insisting I should check it out. Yes, I love it! Synchronously, I could not help being extremely green with envy. Oh there she is, the pretty Miss X. Or more appropriately I should say, the gorgeous Miss X-- The super rich, ultra gorgeous, extremely fashionable socialite. When people asks "Why do some people have it all?", I think they are refering to her. Did I mention she has a darn good-looking boyfriend too?
It is what I have always wanted- a fashion website with uber cool layout, solid content, fascinating highlights, lovely pictures and of course, alot of readers.
It should be accompanied with a fashion blog where I could openly voice thoughts about my latest loves & hates, an online boutique selling the world's newest & most highly sought after brands (limited-editions), a photo gallery that features all the beautiful people around me and also myself dorned in the latest collections.
Well, these things come easier for people who are rich, famous, beautiful and powerful(connected). I better stay at home and be the one clicking. :/

The perfect choice would be to prepare the Easter brunch yourself. Grab those sunnies and picnic mat, people! But of course I am being too positive here, how many Singaporeans will actually wake up at 7am in the morning, sniff the roses and toast those buns? For the typical too-much-money-but-too-little-time individuals, here are some brunches that you could consider hopping to.
Personally, I think would love to wear my sexy rabbit ears and carefully paint my eggs in a picturesque chapel. While screaming children enjoy face-painting and egg-hunting, adults could indulge in sumptuous buffet and gossips. You can do all these at The White Rabbit- restored chapel checked, eggs painting checked, raw oyster bar, roast beef carving station, full hot and cold buffet, eggs to order, cheese trolley, ice cream sundae bar and dessert buffet all checked. Not cheap though, $98++ per pax. But this is the place for you if you have little bunnies below six years old because they eat for free!
If you are a total opposite from those mentioned above, you will like child-free Easter egg hunts at The Screening Room's rooftop bar. You are in for some great 'adult fun' while reliving childhood memories. People at the Screening Room know that they cannot satisfy customers with just eggs, thus they have given the Easter hunt a twist and allow you to bring home discount cards, movie tickets, food items and drink vouchers.
Some may say 'What's brunch without some champagne?' True that. That's why I would also like to introduce Global Kitchen. It's no longer a brunch, it is a feast- choose from an unlimited selection of premium crustacean, meats, cold cuts and platters, a chocolate fountain, a crepe station, a salmon counter as well as a spectacular array of chocolate creations. $98++ per adult (additional $30 for free flow of Veuve Clicquot champagne), $28++ for children below 12 years old.
We are going to end off with some luxurious items. Fashionable Easter eggs anyone?
Swarovski has teamed up with Guido Gobino the renowned Italian chocolate maker to create some beautiful eggs. Only 100 pieces of these luxury eggs will ever be created and prices are only revealed upon request. Other than using the finest aromatic cocoa powder, each egg is emblazoned with gold and crystals, and with a unique Swarovski crystal pendant. Sweet.
These little eggs seem like they will pop a mini zebra, tiger and giraffe out anytime soon. How adorable! I am sure they are not just cute but taste delectable too. Caffè Giacosa is one of the best restaurant in Florence, owned by famed designer Roberto Cavalli. That explains all the animal prints, trademark of Cavalli. The eggs are sure to blend well into the plush animal print interior decoration.

Another big fashion name to introduce their 'Easter eggs line'. Giorgio Armani’s 5th Avenue flagship will be selling Armani Dolci branded chocolate eggs, which come in our favourite flavours- dark, milk and white chocolate. For me, I think the most enticing part is the blue box tied with a fuchsia ribbon.
